billions of years ago comets, asteriods and others impacts were responsible for earth's rotation! one of them did hit the earth at a right angle, so that earth's axis is angled at 23 degree with the earth's orbital plane!

What started it turning? Perhaps collusion of asteroids to start it spinning...
