I don't see what the point of it is if all of the friends and family live close. If everyone is all spread across the country/world, it sounds like it could be cute. Maybe if you don't want it to be too extreme, making it look like the mom-to-be is just looking for gifts, she could make a pregnancy and baby journal.
Go to http://www.livejournal.com, make an account and pick a cute layout. Have the mom update with thoughts, musings, pictures of pregnancy progress, baby's room when it's decorated, etc. It would also be nice a nice place to put up pictures of the baby so friends and relatives who live far away can see him/her. Let people know that even if they are not livejournal members, they can leave anonymous comments and make sure to sign their names somewhere in the comment.

I feel terrible that people on here cant just be nice!!! I think an online baby shower is a great thing to do in the case that you have alot of family members /friends that live far away!! People should take that into consideration you know????? Anyways I plan on doing an "away" shower for our baby.... The way I plan on doing it is. Registering at a couple different places and then sending invitations that say something like "long distance baby shower" and let the family and friends that are out of state know the date of the baby shower in my home town and let them know if they would like to send a gift to send it by a certain date so that way you can open those gifts the same day that you have your normal baby shower and then be able to call those family members or friends after the shower and let them know how very thankful you are!!! Or we havent decided yet.. But my sister that lives up north may have a baby shower at her house and will have a bunch of pictures and stuff of me when i was little and then now what I look like and we will use a speakerphone so that I can speak to everyone and they will have there own little shower up there with gifts and food and cake and they will all work together at making a few big boxes to send down to where I live and pack it all together.. She will probably have them all bring gifts and wrapping paper and wrap everything at the shower and then put it together to mail in a couple BIG boxes and everyone chip in a buck to pay for postage!!!! I think its a great idea.. I hope this helps....
If you need anything else just email me at monicascooking4u@yahoo.com
thanks
GOOD LUCK

Don't listen to free your fancy. She obviously likes to trash people on the internet for some reason. Obviously nobody knows why you want to do an online baby shower and it could be that you are far away from the person you are doing it for....good luck

I don't know how the hell that is going to work, because that's gonna take all the fun out of it being in person, but I guess anything is possible. I guess you would have to do a registry and have everyone mail their gifts but that's gonna be a long shot to see if they will be recieved along the same time line. and you would have to be ina chat room or a forum to all be on the same time... and does everyone have access to a computer? I don't know how that is going to turn out, so good luck with that, because that doesn't seem like it would be that fun, but everyone has their reasons, so hope everything turns out according to plan.

Well, if that doesn't just beat all -- I did something...you might have heard of it... it's called using a SEARCH ENGINE? And I got TONS of hits... Here's one of many:
http://www.webbabyshower.com/
I had never heard of such a thing. What a rather disgusting display of greediness. A baby shower is supposed to be close friends gathering with the mother to be --- IN PERSON. Society has reached an all new low.
