Hi,

I am thinking about changing my career as they are many prospects for me at the moment, and I seem to get stuck into a boring nine till five admin job.

I have qualifications in administration and childcare, I would love to go self employed but not sure what I could do!!

I have a passion for animals, make-up, and I am a friendly person. I am 22 years old but I am thinking that there has got to be more to life than filing and answering a telephone!

Any ideas then??

Thanks

You said make up. All i know is that somthing like Mary Kay may work for you. Are you a really social person? You have to be in a case like this. You have to have alot of balls and go up to pple you don't know and try to sell them this. Mary Kay is just one idea. I wouldn't quit your job though, you should do it part time and see how it goes. Good luck

hi, it's great that you want to do something different, and being self-employed can give you the flexibility and enjoyment you want as long as you are willing to put lots of effort in!
if you are seriously considering self employment and would like to do a short course from home, around your current job then see the course details below, and the link for the providers contact details...

Starting a Small Business & Business Planning
This course is an excellent place to start if you are considering starting your own business. It covers multiple areas including; legal structures, the product or service, health & safety, the market place, market research, marketing and advertising, e-commerce, funding, financial forecasting and breaking even.
During this course a business plan will be produced, therefore a business idea is needed. This course can then lead directly into self employment.

hope this helps you x

hello,
its normal to be confused and some wot frustrated with getting the right job at this age. so don't worry.

Right now, what you got to think is your passions, and if there is a real career in them. websites like Monster.com have good indepth articles on job finding and how to take charge of your career.

You got to know that when we think we are passionate of somethings, we are just looking at the plus side. But do also take care that every thing has a downside..like in animals...emergencies, operations, working in dirt etc. and ask the question: "Am i ready to do all this?" if the answer is yes, then follow it with all your heart and work hard in that direction.

Go to your local career center and find out jobs in areas of your interest. work on them and you will know if you can be in this field given all the pluses and minuses.

As for self-employment, it is generally advised to take a full time job. when you have enough experience in that area, you will know whether self employment is a good option or not.

Why not:
1. build on the child -care by working for an agency. Not self-employed, but you're free to choose your hours / go to college for more quals - even think about a career in nursing (childrens branch)..
2. admin + childcare + people skills = start a nursery?
3. teacher training? - nursery teacher.
well, they are just ideas...

Your passion for animal could lead you to open an animal shelter, and a pet care business.
You could also combine this pet care and shelter business with administering a place where children would come and enjoy the animals company.. The best of luck in your choice.
