Don't pay any mind to kevin. To solve using the quadradic formula you first must get the equation in the form of ax^2+bx+c=0

So add 280 to both sides of the equation to get -x^2+27x+280=0

Now multiply each term by -1 to get x^2-27x-280=0

The variables a and b are the coeficients of x^2 and x. Since x^2 has no coeficient it is therefore assumed to be 1. So a = 1 and b = -27 and c = -280.
sqr = square root

Quadradic formula is as follows: x = -b + or - (sqr of b^2-4ac )/ 2a now you plug in the variables.

-b = 27 because -(-27), b^2 = 729 because negative * negative = posiitive

So the problem would look like this:

x = 27 + ( sqr of 729 - 4 (1) (-27) )/ 2 (1)
x = 27 - ( sqr of 729 - 4 (1) (-27) ) / 2 (1)

I will let you work the rest out for your self just remember to: Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally

Set this equal to 0 to solve:

-x² + 27x = -280

Add 280 to both sides:

-x² + 27x + 280 = 0

Multiply through by -1:

x² - 27x - 280 = 0

Now try to find 2 numbers that multiplied together = 280 but whose difference is 27 to see if you can get it in the form (x-a)(x+b) >> our choices are 2-140, 4-70, 8-35, 10-28, 14-20, 7-40 .... notice that 8 and 35 will work

So our factorization is:

(x-35)(x+8) = 0

So, x = 35 or -8

-x^2+27x+280
quadratic formula: b = 27, a = -1, c = 280

substitute into the formula x = (-b+/-square root of b squared -4ac)/2a
x=(-27+/-43)/-2
x=-8, 35

(x+8)(-x+35)
x= -8 and 35

man why dont u ppl do homework by urselves
delta=27^2-4*1*280
now roots are
x1= (-27-root(delta))/2
x2= (-27+root(delta))/2
now atleast do these many calculations...and mate u r gonna fail
