Currently, I am taking birth control pills every day to help my period-it was extremely late, and the gyno said I needed to bring it on somehow. However, since I started taking the pills I have gained about 10 pounds, and I really want to get it off, but it seems like the pills are making it harder for my body to get rid of the excess weight. I have been exercising regularly and sticking to a very healthy diet, but my weight's just staying the same. Is it the pills?

Yes, the pills are the culprit! I've seen many girls on the pill who put on weight and find it extremely hard to lose it. There are a lucky few who don't put weight on. The only way to lose weight for you really is to get off these pills and try another method of birth control.

That is a myth. I was told that when you go on birth control you can gain up to 20 lbs. I went on it about 8 years ago and was on it for 5 years. I never gained one pound from being on it. Yes, the pill does in fact, change your mood. It is hormones, remember, so even in its smallest dosage, it will altar the way your body normally reacts to things. You may notice more breast swelling at first as well. One of the better qualities is that your periods become more regular. There are many types of birth control pills. Your doctor can best tell you which brand would be better suited for you. I would not recommend pills that only give you a period 4x per year. For some reason that does not sound healthy. Also, know that when you start on the pill, you must use an alternate method of BC for at least a month until your body has acclimated to the pill and it is at its fullest strength. Good luck.

Yes, the birth control pills can be making u gain weight. You are taking a BC pill with way too much estrogen for your body. You need to talk to your doctor about this weight gain and let him know about ur late period, your doc should change your pills to a lower estrogen pill and your periods will then be on time and u will not gain anymore weight.

Birth Control does cause unexpected weight gain. However, if you work with your doctor there are several versions of birth control.
If you need a lower hormone level, there are several low levels. It may be that in order to control your cycles you need a high hormone level bc.
The best solution is to be honest with your doctor.

I'll tell you what my doctor told me.

The pill doesn't make you fat, overeating makes you fat.

I seem to remember that happening to me when I took them. I think that is one of the annoying side-effects of BCP's.
