Defrag that comes with Windows XP requires at least 15% free disk space to properly arrange files in a continuous manor. If you don't have 15% free disk space, remove easy to replace large programs, def rag then reinstall the programs.

Well, i have both windows 98 and windows xp in my computer, and i always use windows 98 defrag to do it...
Windows xp defrag requires the 15% free space (Thats a lot) and is very very hard to work, because in windows xp is impossible to stop all the processes...
All i can say is, if by any chance you have windows 98 installed in the same machine, defrag thru it...

make sure you don't have any other programs running (such as yahoo messenger, internet browsers, imaging programs, etc)- make sure you adjust your screen saver so it doesn't start up or turn it off until the defrag is done (then reset your screen saver) - you might also want to try run scan disc (if you're using windows 98) - you might want to invest in upgrading your computer with more memory and more hard drive if you feel it's worth putting the extra money into it.

Sounds like you have downloaded a bunch of songs or photos and filled up your hard drive. You need to burn that stuff to a CD-R and free up some space. Or buy a bigger hard drive then you will need to transfer all files and folders to the new one witch take another software to clone the old one to the new one because of all the hidden folders wont transfer and cause more problems
