I heard this was something to do with Windows XP service pack 2. That it was left in inadvertently.

There's nothing wrong with my system, though - correct?

if you got a "certificate of authenticity" with your computer and/or software, then it was just an error.

if you did not. then you might have a copy of a "developer's" version of the software.
