Brasilia is the capital of Brazil since 1960.
Before that, the capital was Rio de Janeiro, and much before that (back in the 18th century) Salvador was the capital.
All these changes were due to the development of Brazil itself and the change of its economical needs.
Brasilia was chosen for its central location. It was an empty site, and the city was all planned and built out of nowhere....nowdays it is a huge and very organised city.

Brasilia (written with S) is the capital of Brazil since the 1960's
It used to be RIO DE JANEIRO and not Sao Paulo as somebody said.
It was built in a airplane shape and design by Oscar Niermayer.
It is located in the Brazilian central area. around 1h20m flying from Rio.
Sao Paulo is the largest city in Brazil and probably the most important. Financial center of the country, 3rd biggest city in the world.Loosing only for NYC and Mexico City.
Rio de Janeiro is pretty big as well but not as big as Sao Paulo.
Famous for tourists, also very important for goods entrance in Brazil (from the sea).
