I'm interested in finding out what you honestly (HONESTLY) associate with these words. What images run through your mind? What stories?

Please include in your answer whether or not you know someone of Aboriginal descent on a personal basis.

You might be interested to check out a website that does research on topics such as this-- It's called Project Implicit, and it's an ongoing Harvard study. I found out about it while reading the book, "Blink", by Malcom Gladwell. (Great book, by the way-- I enjoyed it more than his other one, "The Tipping Point") You can register (it's free and quick) and participate, and/or see results of past studies. It has things that are race-related, gender related, and sooo much more-- really interesting stuff!! -- I'm going to post it as a new topic, for those who might find it of use-- I hope you're getting the answers you were looking for! -- Also, my thoughts on all of the above are pretty standard, as I have some Aboriginal blood in me- (MicMac) -- I'm curious as to why you posted the question, though, as there may be those who answer with the stereotypical racist comments-- Anyway, I hope the site gives you more information to satisfy your curiosity-- I have to say, it does make you THINK, and can challenge what you thought you knew about yourself!-- Bye for now, have a great week!

Most that I have met from Pine Ridge rez have said Indian means "Indios" or "Of God." hence, spiritual people. The term Native American according to my study in Social Science BA degree program does nothing more than make stereotyping worse. All Americans now, born in American are Native Americans. It would be better to say "First Peoples."

I am a Native woman and these words make me think of home. Of family. Of love. And of being free.
