I am doing my NVQ in Beauty Therapy and when i tell people, they think its because im stupid and cant do anyhting elles, but the course that i am on is the first year of a doctors course and i have to do things like learn every bone and every muscle in the body. Its definatly not easy but why such chritisism?

Do NOT let this discourage you! The beauty industry is very professional and make a ton of money if you do it right. Get into a nice upscale salon and you will be laughing at everyone who doubted you! Once you get a good clientele you will make great money, and its fast easy money. You get to pick your hours and days. You work for yourself!!!!!

know how you feel. I'm doing my hnd and we have to do a higher in anatomy as well as all our other theory work and people still speak slower around me, even though after this I will be in the 3rd year of a physio degree at uni.
They are jealous because we are clever and can make our selves absolutely gorgeous as well!! Good luck with your course and hold your head up high because you will have the last laugh when you are doing something that you love and everybody else is stuck doing boring 9-5 ha ha :-)

Beauty Therapist's are not labelled any worse than most every other job? In most any profession you will find prejudices, it is not just in your sector. For example, engineers are labelled as boring, artists as freeloaders, construction men as pervs, salesmen as pushy etc etc. In any walk of life you will encounter people who just categorise you and expect that you will perform like the stereotypical views that the world puts on you. What you have to do is work just that little bit harder to prove them wrong!

Nothing wrong with doing the course or what you learn from it. Beauty is supposed to come from within or is inthe eye of the beholder ! Beauty therapists charge 2 much and we are all ripped off by the cosmetics industry.

at my college people which usually take up the course your doing is usually related to hairdressing and beauty etc. and some people make them out to be stupid for some reason but im not sure.

ignore them - they are the ones without intelligence hunny. you go for it and enjoy the course - good to know that BT's have such rigid training - makes me feel safer x

i no its so annoying. did my course 2yrs ago and its not easy at all...think the practical exams have to be the hardest thing ive done!if they only new... don't take any notice... u no how hard u work!!!
