What and why did they name the bridge the name it has?

The bridge was renamed the Ironworkers Memorial Second Narrows Crossing in 1994 to honour the 27 workers that lost their lives during its construction.

In honour of the men who died while building it. During the construction in the early '50 a portion of the mid-span collapsed and several iron worker were killed by falling metal or drowned.
