Hi ,I am new to America and would like to know more about baby registry and baby shower.Does it work as follows :I go register at babiesrus the things I need and this includes least expensive items like dishwasher rack to the baby cot .And then the guests:my husbands colleagues choose from my list what they would like to gift me .So do i need to remove some items from the registry list ,which could be an embarasment for me if my husbands friends find out the things I need like breastfeed pillow ,breast pump etc. Can you all provide me more information regarding the whole deal.

You have the basic idea of it. Register for everything you want or need for your baby. Some people like to buy collections of little things and some like to get together with others and buy large items, so put it all on you registry.

Don't leave off the breastfeeding supplies. When I shop for a baby shower, that is the first thing I look for on the mom's registry. Put your pillow, pump and breast pads all on there. If anyone is offended or embarassed, it is from their lack of education on the benefits of breastfeeding.

Congrats on your decision to breastfeed. It is absolutely best for you and your baby!

In America we are accepting of women who want to breastfeed. If it were me, I'd leave the pillow and pump on the list, unless it would embarrass my husband. If your husband is okay with it, then don't worry about it.

If you choose to remove items, tell a close friend that you're doing this and the reason why. They may choose to get those items for you themselves, or speak to the other women who may present you with them as gifts.

The baby gift registry is something new in America within the last 10 years or so. Before registries, people gave thought to the gifts they would give (as they probably do in your home country), not just read from a list of needed supplies. Many people still refuse to use the list, so you probably still will receive gifts that you did not put on it. (If you're lucky, you may receive hand made items as well.) :-) Best of luck to you.

don't make it harder than it is honey. all you do is when you do your registry, you scan some things that you would like to have. then you take your scanner to an associate that will print it out of all the things on your wish list. then all you do is sit back. the hard part is over. so when your guests come and shop for the things, they will go to an associate and ask for the registry in your name and they will get a list of all the things you want, and they will also give them a print out that will tell them what has been purchased so they won't buy the same thing twice and what is left over on the list. and no you don't have to remove anything because the thing about it is you don't know wether it will be in stock by the time they buy your gifts so it's okay to have a lot of items on the list, because the the list is long when it comes to having a baby. and then your guests don't have to guess as to what you want as presents, and you'll get what you want so everyone is a winner. all you have to do is go to wherever you want to register and you have many places to choose from:
target
jc penney
walmart
toys r us/ babies r us
this is the time to get what you really need without coming out of your pocket so don't hold back because on a registry you're gonna get what you want and make sure to let everyone know you're registered at the store of your choice... good luck and have fun!

NO honey nothing to get embarrest about you choose from the most expensive to the smallest thing and dont be embarest of nothing babies are expensive, so you go to regester pick every thing out they take the list to the cashir and that item will say bought so no one and double purchase it unless you scan 2 of the same item

Why would a breast-feeding pillow and breast pump be embarrassing?

I had all kinds of things on my registery. I had things that were just a couple of cents to things that cost hundreds of dollars. Be prepared to get a lot of diapers (in smaller sizes) and wipes.

Why get embarrassed? You are having a baby, and it's just friends. What about when your baby needs to breastfeed and you are in public?
