Changing nappies you sometimes get poo on your fingers and You have to sniff! Dont you so Why is it such a long lasting potent smell!

Maybe its a left-over from pre-historic times when stoneage women used the smell to recognise or find their own babies? I'm certain that's what animals do even today, and they say we descended from apes.

I'm not sure that the smell itself is potent, it's just that we are very sensitive to it.

Evolutionarily speaking, it would be advantageous to be able to smell very small quantities of poo, because then you could avoid touching or eating it and becoming infected with poo-related bacteria. So the genes associated with poo-smell recognition were selected for.

At least that is what I assume :)

becos poo is meshed with food and chemicals from your gut

aaaaannnnnddd your clothes have inbreaded smells

just like when you go to someones house people have smells
