I am so mad! There is this woman calling my house non stop. She got my number from the telephone book but she calls me from numbers that don't exist! How is that possible?
For example :000-012-3456

Not only did I call the cops but they say they cannot do anything and the phone company said the numbers don't exist so we can't block them and the girl, yes it is a girl and she does sound old. I told her I called the cops she doesn't give a ****!

call your phone company and report it. ask them if they can track where the calls originate and block future calls from that/those numbers.

alternatively, get an unlisted number and activate your phone's caller id feature so that you can screen all calls and determine which ones you wish to answer. that should also give you all the numbers she uses; those numbers you report to your phone company.

from your latest post [addendum], it does appear that you are completely at the mercy of this crank. on the other hand, crank calls eventually stop; it’s simply a battle of wits and nerves.

the best way to de-fang a crank is to unmask his/her identity, or at the very least, turn things around by making her the object of your ridicule. two ways to de-fang a crank:

A. unmasking the crank’s identity:

1. talk to her, if only to gain a better understanding of why she's doing this to you. other than trying to know why she’s doing this to you, your primary goal is to an idea of "who" she might be. give her all the rope to hang herself with; let her ramble on; she will eventually tip her hand...if she’s not smart enough. once you know who she is, tell her so. armed with a more solid information, you may now report it to the police.

2. whether or not talking to her solves the problem, consider changing into an unlisted number. but if she is somebody who knows you personally and well, and she’s determined enough, she will find a way to get your number, anyway: from neighbors, friends, workmates, etc. which brings you back to no. 1.

B. in a protracted battle of wits and nerves:

1. don’t take calls from numbers you don't recognize;
2. don’t say anything until the caller, using an unknown number, speaks. if you’re sure it’s she, you may hang up (which tells her she got your number right), or;
3. off-put her by inquiring, "x funeral service. how may we help you?" if the caller asks to speak to someone (you), query her, "when did he/she die?"

nothing unnerves and riles a crank faster than the realization that she is the pathetic object of your ridicule; that you can toy around with her just as easily as she can call you; that she risks vulnerability herself by being made angrier than she could ever make you.

good luck and have fun at her expense...and let her know it!

I don't know how she's doing that. You can call the phone company and ask them to trace the calls. You can check the phone book, too. There's a code that you press when you hang up. Then you can have them trace the #. I think it will cost you, though. Someone was doing that to me recently. I'm sure I know who it was. There was this stalker girl who accused me of having a relationship with her EX-boyfriend and she started harassing me. There's just some crazy people out there. You could either listen to what she has to say and let her blow off some steam or you could just ignore her and hang up everytime she calls. Sometimes if you talk to these people, you just add more fuel to the fire no matter what you say. She'll want to call you everytime she gets the notion. Easiest way to get rid of her - pay the few extra bucks to get your number changed and have it unlisted.

Not sure what she's using, but there is something they have out or something you can dial that lets you type in the number you are calling from. I'd be pretty ticked too. What does she want from you? There might be something the phone company could do.

Get an unlisted number. Also join the national "do not call" list. Good Luck.

How about you don't answer it.
You don't have to talk to her.
Or take your phone off the hook,
or turn your ringer off,
or tell her your lawyer advised you to record the call so that you can press HARASSMENT charges.
That'll scare her away!
Good luck!

PS Why is she calling, does she say?
