The grand am didn't have a fuel cut off switch in the trunk - this was a Ford idea, not GM.

Don't have a manual in front of me for that year, but many GM vehicles and trucks have the oil pressure switch controlling the fuel pump instead of an "inertia switch" like Ford. It is used to kill the pump if you run out of oil thus saving the engine, or shutting off the pump in the event the vehicle rolls over as the oil will flow out of the pan and so will the gas flow out of the tank. The oil flowing out of the pan and into the top of the engine on an upside down car will cause the pressure to drop, thus cutting the fuel pump off. If the oil pressure sending unit switch on the engine is defective on any of these models equipped it can either cause the pump to stop running as soon as the car is started (computer gives it the initial start) or cause it to continue to run after you shut it off if the switch is stuck. don't forget the fuel pump relay can stick as well.

Deltech is right. There is no fuel cut off switch on GM cars. If you were in an accident or something and the vehicle will not start, your car needs repairs. Maybe a fuel pump in the tank or damaged wiring at the rear of the car.
