its very simple, keep your network cables connected to the router and your computer.

>now on your wired computer > open your web-browser
> on the address bar type 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 to access
your router, if it aske you for a username and a password
>type in: WRT54G(for username) & admin(for password) this is
case sensitive.

>once you got in, on the Setup>Basic Setup, enable the DHCP
setting.

to enable wireless network:

>on the wireless>basic wireless settings tab, hit the reset
security settings
>move to the wireless security settings tab and disable the
security mode, although i dont recommend this disabled for
a long time someone might be access your wireless network
and mess up your files, try to learn how to work with security
modes such as WEP and WPA Personal to secure your
wireless network.

i dont know anybook about networking, but if you go to http://movielibrary.lynda.com/html/modPage.asp?ID=144 and purchase a copy of this video, it covers a whole lot of things about basic networking and security and $70.00 is not bad. i highly recommend this video. it has a few sample videos you could watch, check it out and you might like it.

i'm afraid this could be somewhat technical, yet i will do my appropriate: you do not say what fashions your router & pc are - that would help! that's attainable that they are the two working, yet not utilizing a similar instantaneous customary. The pc (if some years previous) would help in basic terms '802.11B' at a similar time as the router (& wanadoo adapter) could be utilizing '802.11G'. verify the router's settings properly waiting to be set to apply the two in basic terms 'G' or the two 'B' & 'G' mutually no depend if that's amazingly new. there is likewise '802.11N' that's amazingly new. you have not mentioned no depend if the adapter is working with the pc or yet another computing gadget? If it incredibly works in the pc, then examine the properties of its settings with those of your geared up-in instantaneous adapter. Is there a instantaneous turn on the case of the pc? specially circumstances that's a similar swap for the two BluTooth & WiFi - verify that that's on! The 'Sony Vaio VGN-SZ2XP' easily has one like this. What I mentioned approximately 802.11 standards additionally applies to encryption standards. there is WPA (greater present day, greater shelter) & WEP (older) - confirm that your Sony helps the WPA customary if your router is utilizing it.

ok had the same problem. Went out and got a copy of smart computing. How to configure your router. My cable modem would not talk with my router. Connecting the router, cable /dsl modem, and computers is straightforward. 1 turn off the cable /dsl modem and unplug it from the electrical connection. 2 shut down the computer that connects to the internet 3 locate the ethernet cable that connects from the back of your computer to the modem 4 disconnect the ethernet cable from your computer and plug it into the WAN/INTERNET PORT on the router. 5 plug a different ethernet cable into a lan local port on the router. connect the other end to the computer. 6 plug in and turn on the modom and wait for it to fully boot about one to two mins 7 turn on the router and wait one to two mins. 8 turn on your computer 9 the following router led status lights should be on power, WAN/INTERNET, and lan/local for the port your computer is attached to. After the router is connected you need to configure the router for the internet.

Try uninstalling the firmware upgrade. Sounds like that's what caused your problem.

Your first lesson in network administration: be very cautious about installing upgrades, particularly if you don't have some definite benefit in mind to justify the risk. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
