I think that words and pics are enough to become friends, but that only upon meeting does it really cement the relationship. I met one of my best friends in a chat room on myspace. We chatted almost every night, moving from myspace chat to yahoo IM's and finally to meeting in person. I can say whole-heartedly that I trust my friend that I met online just as much and possibly more than the friends I met in person. I tell her everything and vise-versa.

I've dated someone online for 5 years now, we met just recently though and I love her completely. While we both may have lied we got through it and I dont think its anything different than what any other couple would experience. It's way different than talking to someone in person that's for sure, but you fall in love with them in a different way, you know them differently. I think 5 years was too long for us so sometimes it is awkward because we're so used to messaging. But it still works for us because we know we can get over it, we know who each other is and why we love each other. You're not just judging a person on their looks, it's how you interact, its the words you use, just like in any other relationship. And they're not a stranger once you get to know them. There are risks involved but that is normal for any relationship. I went 5 years without even hearing her voice, I think our relationship is rare, who else would give that much time into it? But I do believe internet relationships can work and do work, it all depends on the people involved.

I came to know a girl online. She's studyin in Japan while I'm in Singapore. We've never met. Online chats, emails and phone calls is what we did.

However, she fell deeply for me even more than her ex whom she hav physical contact wit. Sometimes.. love may be over rated.. but what matters most is the heart.

I may not be there to hug her when she's down or sad. But thoughts and sincere carin can be felt despite distance.

Pics can never be enough to judge a person. Plus.. who are we to judge a person? regardless the relationship.. why should we judge one by looks? Aint it superficial?

Trust comes wit time and the efforts made by both parties.

hope my answer helps.

cheers.
