Let someone else, preferably their own CONTINENT, help Dafur. We have some things to work on in America. I do not want the Democrats raising my taxes and we need to fix up the south from Katrina.

For those of you who WILL say - What about Iraq? WE WERE ATTACKED BY THE TERRORISTS WHO TRAIN AND LIVE THERE and in the MIDDLE EAST.

Those people are going to continue to starve to death. Here's why.

Foreign policy is set by the President. Darfor and Sudan are viewed (by our President) as being United Nations issues (he is probably right, we cannot by ourselves implement changes in those areas). But he has nominated Bolton to continue as the US Ambassador to the United Nations.

President Bush has shown very little interest in Darfor/Sudan. And for good reason. He has two wars to worry about (Iraq, Afghanastan), is concerned about Iran, and has that North Korea nuclear weapons issues to deal with. These are viewed as directly affecting U.S. Interests.

So, what can Congress do about Darfor/Sudan? First, they can pay the dues owed by the US to the United Nations, so that its actions can be properly funded. Second, they can hold hearings to bring the matter to the President's attention. And third, they can appropriate funds for those people (and actually fund the other foreign aid proposals that Bush proposed in principal, but which he inadvertently omitted from his proposed budgets). The problem, of course, is that with the current deficit, it is hard for any party to suggest increasing foreign aid without a plan to pay for it (but remember, humanitarian aid is less than 1/10 of 1% if the US Budget. Indeed, one day in Iraq costs more than all of our humanitarian aid for a year).

Only if Darfor is actually brought to the attention of the American people, who then make it an issue for their representatives in congress, will the problem be meaningfully addressed, much less resolved, by Congress and the President.

(They seem much more interested in the inane issues of flag burning and civil unions, than in issues of life and death around the world).

Great tofu, pull them out of Iraq and send our troops right to Africa where they will be shot at by both sides....again..(Somalia ring a bell where the people we were helping drug our dead troops down main street).

I would have to agree with most that Bush has brought it to the UN's attention, pledged support for Darfur. Congress should fund his pledge.

That's it. The world thinks we put our nose in places it doesn't belong well then I guess they will have to step up to the plate.

Nothing. The democrats are nothing but a bunch of greedy tax and spend hypocrites. There peace, love, and understanding stance is just a front for greed.

They'll just pass the buck about it.
