Yeah, Newberry street is like Boston's version of New York City's 5th Avenue, lots of high end shops. There is also The New England Aquarium, if that interests you, The Museum of Science, which is currently having a fascinating Body Worlds Exhibit, and Harvard Square is pretty cool, always busy with tons of students.
If you're planning to visit during warm climates, a cruise around the city is highly recommended, and especially, I've heard that the Duck Tours, are not to be missed. Hope this helps!

Try Newberry Street, Cambridge University, and a cool fairly unknown Museum is the Isabella Gardner Museum. Close to the Boston Fine Arts Museum. I think both you and family will find these places fun and interesting!

The whole city.....There are numerous historical sites, The Freedom Trail is a walk that you can take that takes you through the town, you see Paul Revere's house, the USS Constition (which is beautiful, I have ridden on it) The square where the Boston Massacre took place, A few graves, and the Monument of Bunker Hill....It is amazing.

The N.E. Aquarium is very cool! If you like music, try to check out the Harvard Coop. I went there as a teen, back in the stone age, and was just STUNNED by the selection of *cough* records (yes, no CD's then!) they had!

Your best bet for seeing the city are the Boston Duck Tours. They are fun and you get a great tour/history of the city.
