I'm going to assume a sloping roof - and I can't for the life of me figure how a laser device would be superior to a tape measure. You DON'T have to be on the roof to measure it . You can measure its horizontal dimenison from the ground, get its vertical rise by counting clapboards or comparing the rise to a window..., etc.. Then it is back to algebra class and Horiz.^2 + Vert.^2 = ("Length" of the Roof)^2
