The Post office will be happy to give you a moving package to help forward your mail. Most states allow 30- 90 days to change your registration and driver license. Also, if you own guns, be aware that there are states that insist that you register them with your local law enforcement. Avoid them, if possible, or you could get in trouble if you ever need to defend yourself! Pet tags, county voting registration, etc. There are a LOT of things to settle AFTER the move!

It will only work socially, but not in any other manner. The first thing the judge asks you when you apply for a name change is if you are doing so to evade collections agencies and the like, to cover up over a criminal record or if it is to engage in "terrorism." I changed my name, also for a new start, but it was for purely social reasons. It will not change beauracratic or administrative aspects of your life. As well, it was so ineffective in achieving what I had in mind that I changed back to my old name... However, I've also considered moving to another state. If your "new start" is purely for cosmetic/social reasons, a new place to live, a new name, and even the fundamental thing of a new look will help. I even started trying to act differently from what I used to. I put a rubber band on my wrist, and if I started to act the way I did before, I would snap the rubber band. I would pull it pretty far back, and it actually created welts on my arm (temporary).

You don't have to change your car registration or driver's license right away when you move. But once you decide to go to the state DMV. Your mail can be forwarded with a a forwarding request form from the post office.
