Christmas these days bears no resemblance to it real story - it has become far too commercialised.

How often do you see a nativity scene these days? Ask half the children in an entire school (primary school) what Christmas is all about and they'll say "presents".

The reason it starts earlier each year is that it has become a capitalist race to see which business can fleece the most money out of us. Some stores base their entire annual turnover on the next 8 weeks. Woolworths has been trading at a loss all year so far - but it expects to pick up over the Christmas period and make more money (profit) than last year.

Money money money - that's what it's all about.

I agree with phlodgeyb. It Is too commercialised, and has been since 1957. Even then, Christmas marketing started around the Sept/Oct period. It is all about money, too. A song by Stan Freberg, also in 1957, summed it up: "Christmas has 2 dollar signs in the word!" So, Christmas does come early for the reason of money and for shops to make as much of it as possible.

I saw some houses decorated in September. Xmas has become a commercial phenomenon. All to make money. Thing is the corporations have cleverly convinced so many that buying early is the best, and sometimes that they need to buy more. Like the large carousals with Santa and reindeer in the front yard? Like come on people.

Its ridiculous! we have like more than a month to go yet and already there are adverts for Xmas this and Xmas that, the thing that go me was when i saw an advert with a brat in saying it Christmas in bludi October!!! my dad always says that he used to really luck forward to Xmas as the decorations and hype about it didn't start until about 2 weeks before, so instead of getting bored of it before it even gets her they could enjoy it more when it did come. its pathetic how marketing is trying to push things already... were has the holiday spirit gone?

I have to agree. In Nottingham, the decorations went up all over the shopping centre in the final week of October. As pretty and as 'busy' as they look, by the time Christmas 'day' comes, it will feel such an anti-climax.

Christmas decorations are usually up in stores before Halloween. Who cares? Surely there are more important things to worry about.

You are right christmas is coming earlier and earlier each year. I've already been out singing carols for school and on halloween i heard christmas music playing! We're taking this holiday spirit a little to far a little to early. SLOW IT DOWN!

Happy Holidays! LOL

Well lets be fair, if you live in Donny like me, the decorations from last year only came down about 2 months ago.

Christmas should be limited to only the middle part of December and up until the 25th. That is more than enough time to celebrate it.
