Better to ask why people are so quick to apply labels. If I disagree with the Democratic policies in any way, I get labeled a "Neocon". Fact is, I am a registered Democrat, just a moderate one.

People apply labels to make their understanding of another person and their views more understandable. Easier to pigeonhole someone if you can put them in a category to be mentally filed.

Noone agrees with Bush on every issue, anyone who says they do is lying. No 2 people can see eye to eye 100% of the time. Some people label others as liberal if they consider themselves conservative and you disagree with them on even one issue. Most of us true consevative label people as liberal if they make overtly liberal comments regardless of whether or not the comment agrees with or disagrees with the president. Most liberals agree with the president on illegal immigration, but us true conservatives will never call you a conservative because you are agreeing with the president on a liberal idea.

It is related to partisan viewpoint. In the partisan mindset if you disagree then you are the opposition and must be labeled as such. This applies to both sides without exception. Further, since partisans tend to be the most vocal among us their voices give the impression that more people agree with them than actually do. The reality is that the vast majority of people are moderates and do not embrace or think in these terms.

And why labeled a neocon when you agree with him on any issue.

( I was label a neocon because I agree with Bush's signing of a bill that increased the size of federally protected marine habitat by 600%)

I'm a conservative and I don't agree with Bush on every issue. The problem with the left is that when you disagree with the libs, you then become the evil doers.LMAO

That is something I don't understand, just like the democrats label everybody on the right as a "neocon" without knowing the meaning of the word!!!!

Democrats, Republicans, and Independents!!!(it is that simple)
Let's all agree to disagree!!!!

Right wing Republicans have demonized the term "liberal" and used it for political fodder for a long time now. They use it, well...liberally (lol) to poke a stick at anyone who doesn't agree with them.

They aren't. I don't agree with every issue and I am not labeled liberal. It's when you go on the constant attack against the man that the true liberal comes out.

I agree that people ought to be able to label themselves, if they wish, and I reserve the right to consider myself conservative. But not neocon.

Maybe the people can't come up with any reasonable arguments so they resort to name calling.
