I am the same way as you are, but it turns out on my end that people around me actually said that being straightforward and honest has been one of my by far best characteristics. I don't hold back and I keep it real. There's nothing wrong with keeping it real because that's taking away from your character and personality and if people don't like it not your problem. But always pick and choose your battles carefully to speak your mind and tell the truth. Some things you might say could offend people and you don't mean to offend or hurt anyone.

I think you need to be cautious when you speak your mind. I think if you are saying things that may be hurtful, that could be why. If someone asks for your opinion, make sure they want to hear what you are going to say. Warn them that you are going to be 100% honest and they might not like what you will say. Sometimes it's better to bite your tounge and refrain from saying something hurtful. Use good judgement.

Try seasoning your honesty (which is really just your opinion) with tact. People value honesty, but not tactlessness.

Learn when to say something and when not to. Then learn HOW to share your opinions in a constructive manner.

You sound like you have the makings of a good leader, but you're a diamond in the rough. Props to you for being willing to learn!

People will respond to you whenever you interact with them. It is commonly assumed that people will respond to you based on what you say to them. I invite you to consider that is not what you say to them that makes the difference, but the way you say it. You can say to someone "You are wonderful" in a deragatory way, in a cynical way, in a cold way, in a hateful way, in a loving way, in a respectful way. It is not the message, it is the delivery. A woman that loves her husband may say "You are such a jerk". She can say it in a loving way, and so it comes across as expression of affection.

If you speak your mind and it hurts other people's feelings, you're just being a mean nasty person. Do you like doing that?
