You can take it your entire life. It is a good thing to take, regardless of pregancy. But if you are trying to get pregnant they suggest starting at least 3 months prior to concieving.

You can take them before you're even pregnant. In America there used to be a commercial on t.v. about that, about how all women of childbearing abilities should take folic acid.

You'll get it in lots of foods though, depending on if you eat breads or veggies a lot. A good prenatal vitamin even before pregnancy is fine too.

When I told my doctor I was trying to conceive, he gave me a prescription for folic acid and told me to start taking them right way. Better to take before you get pregnant to lessen your baby's chances of getting some birth defect. I started mine a month before I got pregnant and I'm still taking them.

My doctor told me I should start taking them at least 3 months prior to getting pregnant, and at least 3 months into the pregnancy. If you're trying to get pregnant you should definitely be taking them.

As soon as you decide you would like to start trying to conceive you should start. The better health you are in before you conceive the better health you should have during pregnancy. (for you and the baby)

you should always take them, but contrary to popular belief you do not have to take them every single day. Take them 3-4 times a week and that would help for when you do become pregnant.
