Billie Jean King is the most important women's tennis player or women's athlete period. Created the Virgina Slims circuit so they could get paid. Had an abortion (big deal at the time) Was outed, did not come out on her own and had to face a silly laws suit from the women . Was the first ladies athlete to be sportsman of the year on Sports Illustrated magazine a big accomplishment. Not to mention was just a phenomenal player , no1 for several years. They have now named the US TENNIS CENTER the BILLIE JEAN KING FACILITY. That is a high honor.

The best woman tennis player is Justine Henin Hardenne and she has proved this during the WTA Tour Championships in Madrid.

it definitely is martina navratilova cos she has won about 20 grand slam singles titles and loads and loads of slam doubles titles as well.she retired, and then again returned on the circuit to play doubles and won loads of doubles titles.she even won her last title this year at the age of 50!imagine playing at that age on the pro circuit let alone winning.also not only has she contributed to tennis but is also involved in charity work and fighting for the rights of homosexuals.so definitely when she has so many slam titles to her name, she is the best.

I would say Chris Evert she revolutionized the way women play tennis. She also reintroduced the two handed backhand. And she isnt a raging dike!
