Here is wiki's plot summary. It's pretty involved. It looks like the Bad and the Ugly first meet with the Bad tortuing the Ugly.

If you go to IMDb, here's the summary on the film by Sergio Leone, released in Italy in 1966, entitled "Buono, il brutto, il cattivo":

"Three gunmen set out to find a hidden fortune. Who will walk away with the cash?"

So I guess "the good" one knows them too.
