I absolutely agree with your point. I owe no-one anything. I make my own arrangements for Christmas. I am a Pensioner. I am financially secure. I do not drink and I do not gamble. I am therefore better off as a result. I pay taxes on everything.
I see no reason whatsoever why I, through taxes, should reimburse those who lost money in the venture. Make the company directors and shareholders (if any) liable for the debts. That is the problem with this country, too many hangers-on and do-gooders...... ...............

The thing about the farepak situation is that they were one of a number of companies owned by a much larger parent company who has many other successful businesses and who have left vulnerable and low income customers high and dry for Xmas.Granted that some of the offers from other commercial companies could be seen as a cynical ploy to gain new customers and publicity, as indeed may be RBOS' offer, the bank that pulled the financial rug in the first place. I disagree that this was a "venture" for the customers, may of whom would have used this method of paying for Xmas (some may be on such a low income that even having a bank account may not have been open to them) and i would hope that a spirit of goodwill extends to helping at least these customers out who have lost hard earned money through no fault of their own. I would have preferred some strong-arming of the parent company itself to make a goodwill gesture rather than walk away & leave the good samaritans (& rival opportunists) to help their fellow man.

i think its because most of the people who have lost out are on low income or unemployed, thus saving this way to pay for Xmas is the easiest way. and as for the big company's getting involved it good PR. or that just might be the cynic in me
