It is a fictional (meaning it is not real) story, with the initial idea from Ed Gein, who did not live in Texas at all.

even though it is fake there is a museum in texas near the filming location called the fangoria museum where it has a recreagtion of the house with the props from the movie (and an actor in the costume chases you out at gthe end)

Do you mean filmed in? Because the movie was only very loosely based on fact, and none of it really happened in Texas.
