let x equal the number of student tickets and y nonstudents
x-250=y because 250 fewer nonstrudent tix were sold
6x+9y=10500 because of tix prices
substitute
6x+9(x-250)=10500
6x+9x-2250=10500
15x=8250
x=550 student tix
y=300 nonstudent tix

6s + 9n = 10,500

s = n + 250

15n + 1500 = 10,500

15n = 9000

n = 600

s = 850
