A slightly damp cloth (water) is best. We don't want to get any water inside.

There are a few. My favorite is to take one of those glasses cleaning rags they give you when you go to the eye doctor and then use it to wipe down your monitor.
It really depends on your type of monitor. If you have an unprotected plasma screen (w/o glass in front), it is very difficult to clean because there's nothing protecting it. In this case, you should go to the computer store and get one of those glass things to put over your screen and just clean that.
If your screen is protected, I'm not sure that anything would really damage it that much. As long as you don't take the whole bottle of windex and spray the thing so it's like a windex waterfall, you probably won't have a problem. Just slightly dampen the rag (paper towels work as well) and then wipe the screen. Then, take an ordinary paper towel (not dampened) and wipe it off. It should be good as new.

Yes that is true as for Windex will seap into the screen crevices and cause alot of damage, instead use a damp microfier cloth, or that polmer cloth used for optical care

Anything that does NOT contain ammonia or strong solvents. Windex with vinegar rather than ammonia works great. Ammonia will damage the antiglare coating and make a total mess of the monitor.
