im trying to remove a bullet from its casing, so that i can start a small collection of leads for various hunting leads, i did it easily enough with a .22, but i cant do it with a .30-06 shell. is there any way that i can take it out without risking the thing going off in my face?

Most gun shops sell bullet removers, used by people who reload ammunition. They are not terribly expensive, please invest in one before you hurt yourself.

Theres a special tool for removing bullets from the casings. Looks like a plastic hammer that has removeable heads.

Link below, about midway down is a picture on page 14.

Or you could just go to a gun shop that sells reloading supplies and ask if they'll give you one of whatever bullets you need. That'll save you the time and expense of a bullet puller.
Most shops encourage interest in shooting and will be glad to give you a sample.
