The Yanks needed young arms and got rid of a large contract. Maybe the pitchers will work out maybe they won't. But there was no room for Sheff anymore and there was no way he was going to play first. Anyway he's been a real jerk the last few months. I liked him, they will miss his bat, but they need young arms(hell just younger players period).

It was a good move for both teams. The Tigers (I am a fan) had to give up some prospects, but didn't give up anything really special. Sanchez is a good prospect if he can stay healthy, but we already have too many starters. We had more than enough arms in the majors and minors to make this trade. What's crucial is that we didn't have to ship away any major league talent to make this trade happen.
Tigers desperately needed a big bat and they got it in Sheff. Even though Sheff is old and bitchy, I think he will add that offensive spark we need in the middle of the order. The obvious risk is he could get hurt, but the pitchers that we gave up have the same risk. Both teams filled holes with this trade and I think both will benefit. Plus I was pleased that we got a contract extension so we weren't just getting him for 1 year.

It looks like a good trade for both teams. The Yankees needed younger pitching and the Tigers needed an established power hitter.
Yes, Sheffield will be 38 next year but Humberto Sanchez was shut down this past summer for having a tired arm.

I love the Yankees and I am also happy about the trade. Sheffield has cried and whined everywhere he has been.
Yanks do need young pitching talent if they are going to compete. We do have big names but without pitching we will be in the same shape we have been in for the past couple of years. I think they can be shaped into very good big league pitchers. We needed arms instead of whines.

Gary plays when Gary wants to. I've been witness to his slow jogs for Pop ups and ground balls. He is only motivated by one thing and that's money. I'm sure that he will give the Tigers his all, for a game or two.
The three pitchers we got are all unknowns but I'll take that any day over Sheffield.

I think it is one of the better deals cashman has made. If i am wrong please correct me but I believe the yankees cut payroll in this deal by detroit taking on the salary. Also we have bobby now and melky did great in replacement for matsui and sheff last yr so he will fill in without us losing anything. Also if the yankees feel they need another bat I am sure they will go pick up lee or soriano but I am also sure they will get zito.

I think it sucks- I'm from Detroit and I thought that the move for Sean Casey sucked. So, giving up 3 young pitching prospects for one old washed up excuse for a player. Smart move, he has what- maybe 2 years left.

The team that nocked the Yanks out of the playoffs get a player who hits .300 with 30 and 100 every year. The yanks get three minor league pitchers who haven't proven they can pitch in the bigs. Dumb. And now he is going to be pissed and take it out on the Yankees every chance he gets.

I kinda replaced into rooting for the tigers final season, yet they choked close to the tip and blew any opportunities. i do no longer think of there ought to be tenure in activities. it ought to be that at one factor an athlete hits a streak and then a top, and regrettably the video games are much less approximately activity than $$$ anymore, so i think of latest blood is what the tigers possession needs.
