I always thought the actual ipod (not nano or shuffle) was bloody expensive but so many people have them I'm beginning to wonder... I have a PB Vibe 60G which cost about £100 and I thought that a very good find compared to the cost of a 60G ipod.

Also not being a real gamer, the new PS3 strikes me as being expensive too. Is it or are both totally worth their price?

the ipod it worth it as the technology is simple and user friendly.

The PS3 will be around £450 and it is hard to see how this can be justified. They are only go to release 250,000 in the whole of Europe, so they'll be hard to come by as well.

I'm going to wait for the Nintendo WII to come out and then decide between that or the Xbox 360.

I think that the ps3 (due for release next march) is very good for what you get :
Sony Playstation 3 features:
Bluetooth Wireless
Cell processor
RSX "Reality Synthesizer"
256MB XDR
Resolution: 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p
802.11 B/G Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0
Backward Compatible with PlayStation 2, Stands Vertically or Horizontally
Its gonna be approximately £400 which is very steep but if you have 2 kids that share a love for video games then its a great joint gift!

Ipod may be most expensive than your regular mp3 player but the sound and easy to use design and capabilites are what you are paying for, just at a glance they are around £230 for a 80gb which would hold about 20,000 songs, has a 2.5" lcd screen and a video player. The only fault I have with mine is that they scratch way too easily!

Hope this helps,
Take Care

The PS3 is not worth it,to me anyways. Way too high priced, and have you seen the size of it?! It's huge! Compared to the XBOX 360 and Wii,it is overwhelming. The iPod,depends. You could have people argue up and down what they like,or what they hate about the iPod. Personally, you can find other MP3 players out there, that do the same thing,at the same performance, for a lot less.

Regardless of cost... people will buy the PS3, and Que's will be out the door and fights in the aisles in march... as they will have to have one... daft!
the iPod is a fashion statement, and Quality Machine....
you can safely put your entire music collection on it and they are well worth the cost, if you buy one, spend 99p and buy a little skin for it to stop the scratching/damage...Follow apple's instructions for Battery usage, and they never play up! if you look after it though, it shouldn't get bashed about should it?

ipods are expensive, especially for the amount of space you get on it. when i got my nano i paid nearly £200 for a 4gb if remember correctly, totally not worth it! i was buying for the brand to be honest.
the PS3 when released in the UK will be expensive. compared to the rest of the world.
