An exorcist is primarily a "medium" who has direct contact with spirits. Through a ritual, he/ she can call upon these kakodaemons and expel them from the confines of the house or place of living or person permanently. Not always a church thing though, is't more commonly practiced in paganism and wiccanism, and other related branches of religion. The catholic church stole it from the pagans.

An exorcist is usually in traditional form a priest that casts away evil spirits from possessed individuals. This is done so by sprinkling holy water on them, conversing passages in the bible, holding up crucifix's, and demanding the spirit, in the name of Jesus to leave the body. On a more controversy note, some evangelical leaders have taken this place and some even lead workshops.
