Suggest to the person who is holding the party to have a few jars of coffee beans sitting around. In between smelling the candles, smell the coffee beans.
(I don't know why that works, but for some reason it actually does.)

Bring some whole or ground coffee beans with you, and sniff those in between the smelling of the candles, that is what is supposed to help with that particular problem, it works for perfume shopping as well.

When you smell things, the smell is actually shared between your nose and mouth. So if you can...drink water and have like goldfish crackers or something similar (small) to munch between different scents. Also the coffee beans thing...but the accomulated smells still reside on your taste buds.
