It effects our society by watering down the value of life. If we can find one way of justifying murder, we can certainly find another, don't you think?

Of course abortion is a choice. If the person wants one thats fine, if the person doesn't thats cool too. Religion play a big course in abortion as well. I personally think that abortions should remain legal in the U.S. A woman has every right to have an abortion, its her body, its her choice. Lets say that abortions are illiegal and this womans pregnancy will kill before, during, or after birth. How would you feel knowing that it was the countries ways that caused the one you loved to die?

The long term effects of abortion are not mentioned very often by the pro-choice people, such as Planned Parenthood. The psychological effects of abortion are sometimes referred to as “Post-Abortion Stress Syndrome.” These symptoms which include: becoming withdrawn, unexplained depression, guilt, and suicidal thoughts, to name a few, will usually occur within the first few days after an abortion and can last for a very long time. In some cases this leads to drug addiction and alcoholism. In a case brought to the Supreme Court, the Supreme Court stated: “The medical, emotional, and psychological consequences of an abortion are serious and can be lasting; this is particularly so when the patient is immature.”
Another thing to mention is that many of the abortion clinics are free to their patrons...this is because our government funds these organizations...our taxes go to killing babies...how nice.

Unfortunately, it has taught society that we can eliminate anything that is inconvenient. I feel that it has helped create the idea that humans are disposable. I feel that abortion is just a bandaid to a problem that never heals and becomes worse with time. I think that it actually harms a woman more that it helps.

yes, it can. While there are legit reasons for abortions most people are being irresponsible by not taking care of their own mistake. I understand that there are situations other then this but this is the case most of the time and this trait passes on. If you are in such a HORRIBLE situation where you just CAN"T POSSIBLY manage a child do not get yourself pregnant. SEX is not a necessity, it is a choice and if you make it , what happens next is your responsibility.

Today, women receive safe, legal abortions in sterile environments attended by skilled doctors and nurses. Before abortion was legalized, the "operating room" could be a filthy alley or hotel room. If she was lucky, her family doctor might have been sympathetic and performed the abortion for the sake of her "mental health," or she could pay to go to Europe or South America where abortion was legal. The last two options were generally only available middle-class and upper-class women because of economic reasons. For the rest of us, there was the uncertainty of the back-alley abortionist. Some of these folks were skilled and dedicated, and did their best to help women, like Vera Drake. Others were more concerned with making a quick buck or taking advantage of the woman. Some demanded that the woman have sex with them before procedure. And, of course, things like anesthesia and sterilization were not used.
It is impossible to tell how many illegal abortions were performed annually in the U.S. Estimates range from 1-2 million. It is also impossible to tell how many women died from the unsafe procedures, because deaths from illegal abortions were usually not reported as such. Ditto from how many women became dangerously ill and/or sterile due to abdominal infections. Estimates range from 1,000 to 5,000 and up, yearly.
Due to procedure being legalized, it is now performed under ideal conditions. The number of deaths that occur annually with legal abortion is .4 for every 100,000 procedures (which is actually safer than childbirth, with 7 deaths for every 100,000 deliveries). It seems to me that abortion has had a positive effect on society, considering that the mothers, sisters, wives and daugthers who would be dead are alive and well.

It's ironic that the group that is, for the most part, pro-choice (democrats) is also the group that is probably losing a future voter every time a woman has an abortion. I suppose that could be a negative impact.

i just wanted to add that abortion does not effect society adversely just as other medical procedures do not...what happens in our doctor's exam rooms does not effect what happens in the exam room next door - we all have our own medical problems that we see doctors for and generally no two complaints are the same

I don't think so.
I mean, I could see how people could think that way.
It removes the element of mature responsibility for one's actions. It destroys a potential life. It is against most religions to take a life, whether that life is just started or not.
I don't think it is a negative thing even though I myself don't think I could ever do it. Situations will occur where abortion is the most viable option for some people and they should have that choice.
It's an individual thing. Allowing abortion effects no one except those who choose it, and I would say that it effects them positively.
