yes, you actually can do that, I spent about $1,500 buying baseball cards over the years, and keeping them in mint condition and I sold all of my cards to a crazy guy in New Jersey for $5,000. You should buy decent cards from the flea market, they are in mint condition and are 100 cards for $1. Trust me, I made so much money like that.
You have to know some decent baseball players and what cards to choose, then only you can make a decent profit, and you should have a log of the cards you have, trust me then, you will definately make a profit

I collected baseball cards when I was younger and have a few cards worth something but not much. Maybe back during the 40s and 50s when there weren't many different companys making them cards were worth something. Now if you are going to collect you really have to do your research. Find out what cards or series will be worth something and invest in them. It will be more expesive to buy cards now and build a collection. I never saw collecting as a way to make money, it should be something you enjoy. If you enjoy it, make alittle money in it. If you are looking to get rich, try something else.

There were a finite number of cards actually produced by the various card companies prior to 1978. Therefore, the cards are relatively rare and will always be collectors items. Also taken into account is the fact that nobody really thought the cards were worth anything and kids actually played with them. The number of cards produced in recent times makes them virtually worthless as a rarity.

absolutely.buy the older cards .stocks go up and stocks go down but vintage baseball cards never go down.a Barry Bonds rookie card is worth 50 or 60 bucks right now.you can pick it up for under 20 bucks on EBay.now the guy whose record he is about to break Hank Aaron, his rookie card i think 1954 topps is worth between 1500 and 2000 dollars and in 1954 cost pennies to obtain.so you do the math.

No, that's just a rumour put about by the manufacturers.
Also, baseball originated from the girls game of rounders in England, so is viewed as a bit of a nancy boys sport.

I would say yes. There are plenty of players whose rookie or autographed cards would be worth a FORTUNE if they became HOFers. Try this site. http://www.burbanksportscards.com. They have great deals on great cards.

Possibly, but unlikely. Unfortunately in the sports memorabilia field "you" buy stuff at face value, but dealers/vendors will not buy stuff for more than 2/3's the value of what you are trying to sell.
