I'm considering getting either a pueblan milk snake or a corn snake, but I play the drums as a hobby in the same room as the snakes might be kept, would all that noise irritate them?
What about loud music from a stereo?

snakes dont "hear" really, they rely on the vibrations of the ground to alert them to the motion of things around them. they also can sense things by telling where body heat comes from, and the little tongue flicks they do actually pick up scents that their tongue transfers to their nasal passages.

i'd say your snake would be fine if you keep it as far from the drum kit as you can. the stereo shouldnt be too bad as long as you dont have real big subs that are right near its tank.

This might help you out:

"Snakes have no external ears, but they do have a bone called the quadrate under the skin on either side of the head which focuses sound into the cochlea.Their sense of hearing is most sensitive to frequencies around 200–300 Hz."

This is from another part of the article, which talks about snake charmers and the flute which they use to "sing" to the snake:

"However, snakes' sense of hearing is not very sensitive to the range of the charmer's instrument, so they may not be able to hear the music at all."

The entire article is included if you want more in-detail information.

While they may not show obvious signs of distress at loud noises, if they are exposed to repeated loud noises, snakes may be reluctant to eat or nervous and more likely to strike.
Have you ever felt a vibrating sensation when listening to loud music heavy on bass? Imagine what that might feel like to a snake who is built to "hear" that way. This is definitely something to consider if your snake is living next to your stereo system!

Snakes hear by a thing called auditorymedis
Its the vibrations in your voice.
Kinda like a drum beat.

The noise will irritate him,
but its not a life threatening thing.
And with the loud music.
Just dont stack his cage right next to the stereo.

It depends on the snake--(no really, the *Individual*)
--I had one snake who *liked* the steady beat of punk and new-wave music.--- Always came out of his' house',(hide box) sat up and looked around--- he ignored all the other stuff we played

Most snakes do not like loud music --particularly the bass, (cause those vibrations are slower, easier to feel-)--it frightens them (-like the feet of pounding bison, perhaps) but they will, most likely, get used to it.
A baby snake, while more nervous, would have less reference for what is "normal", and might make a better adjustment.

You could feed em just after practice, so they just think its a dinner bell

Tell you what - get someone to play your drums, then lay on the floor and see if the vibrations get annoying for you.

Snakes are very sensitive to vibrations. I'd never dream of playing a drum kit near a snake.

Snakes do not hear as we do..they "hear" through ground vibration. So depending on the vibrations the drums put out...your snake may "hear' them.

They do get stressed by load music or sound if its in a room with a television, radio anything that makes lots of sound.
I suggest you move it out.
The last thing you want is your pet snake with stress, It would starve itself to death.
