I had my last period starting on 28/10/06 , i had missed period this month so i performed home pregnancy test on 11/11/06 and 12/11/06 both were positive.
does that mean i am four week pregnant? Is it too late to start having folic acid? Does it have bad effect if i take it after 6weeks of pregnancy?

Start taking it now for the health of your child. It won't help protect against a nueral tube defect liek spina bifida or anencephaly though, that is determined on the 22nd to 28th day of pregnancy before you even know you are pregnant. Since you were not taking it at the time I highly recommened the alpha fetal protein test at 16 weeks to check for n. tube defects. My nephew died of anencephaly which is a tube defect and I am in the process of starting up a organzation to educate women on the importance of folic acid.

Folic acid is safe to take any time during pregnancy and is good for your body and your baby.

Don't worry though not everyone that doesnt take folic acid pills ends up with a sick child, sometimes you get enough in the food you eat and sometimes you just get lucky. I didnt take them prior to getting pregnant with my son and he is healthy I did take them prior to my twins.

REMEMBER ALL WOMEN WHO HAVE SEX SHOULD TAKE FOLIC ACID DAILY JUST TO MAKE SURE IF THEY GET PREGNANT THEIR CHILD IS PROTECTED!!!

First you are not even late for your period yet. So I seriously doubt you are 4 weeks along unless you were pregnant during your last period. Anyway you say the tests were positive so yes you need to take vitamins. Folic acid is important but so are other nutrients. Take a multi-vitamin and eat healthy. It is never to late to take foilic acid and does not have bad effects if taken as per directions.

not too late to start, but if you are already taking prenatal vitamins do not take an extra folic acid supplement. Just eat foods that are rich in folic acid. Your prenatal vitamins already have enough folic acid. If you have not gotten to a doc yet, than call your local pharmacist, they are great for advice on all medicines! Good Luck and Congratulations!

It is never too late to start taking folic acid, but the sooner you take it the better it can be for your child.
Make sure that when you buy your folic acid you do so from the pharmacy and tell them that you are pregnant so that you get the correct dose and they can advise you on what vitamins to take and which to avoid during your pregnancy.

Start taking it now! It is most important during the first 6 weeks, but you still need it throughout your pregnancy. Make a doctor appointment, and go to the store and get some over the counter prenatal vitamins. Your doctor will be able to tell you how far along you are.

Absolutely! Actually you should have started taking them before you got pregnant. But check with your doctor, you really need to be on a prenantal vitamin because folic acid (although very important) it isn't the only nutrient your body and the fetus need. Congrats!

#1- Go see your OB/GYN
#2- Dont take anything for your pregnancy without talking to the dr first. Safety for the baby is important here. You are probably between 4-6 weeks along if your calculations are accurant... Make sure to see your dr and ask all the important questions.. Start writing them down now and take it with you so you won't forget.. Good Luck and Congrats....

Congrats. You are pregnant.

You should be taking folate, even if you're not pregnant, but if you haven't, start now. You should be taking no more than 800Mcg of folate per day.

I would start by taking prenatals if your stomach can handle them. If not, eat leafy green veggies (turnip greens are great. So is spinach, raw). They are also a great source of folic acid.

Congratulations again!
