I could not agree with you more, and I can't see the logic in it..I have friends with mobiles and as soon as they are home, they switch them off. Some leave them off until they need to make a call.Like you say, what is the point.

1. Turning it off saves the battery.
2. SOme people have jobs or school, and it is inappropriate to answer the phone during those hours.
3. Some people might want to enjoy a play, a movie, a concert, or even an evening out at a restaurant without listening to a ringing cell-phone.
4. Some people (like me, for instance) were adults, before cell phones were even available to the public and we keep cell phones handy mainly for emergency situations... like being stranded on a lonely highway with a dead car battery...

People have phones for a variety of reasons. My best buddy has one for emergency use only ( multiple health issues). And there are some situations where a cellphone ringing or buzzing is intrusive and very rude ie; family time, dinner time, movies, concert etc. Someplaces like hospitals request your cell be turned off for safety reasons.

Here in Canada you can't have your cell phone on, aboard an aircraft, in a voting poll, or on the highway.

Some people have them just as a back up, in case the home phone fails, or for other eventualities, such as if the car breaks down.

A mobile phone call can be intrusive in a public place, and annoying for the people nearby. Personally, I don't like conducting a private converstion in a public place. It's rude.

Most likely they have a message service that will take the calls if the phone is turned off. It's good manners to turn off your phone when you're in a movie or important meeting.

You can't be connected to your phone 24-7 because some situations just aren't appropriate to be answering the phone like meetings, classes, visiting friends

Because a phone that you purchase for your own personal use is just for that: "your" use. Who says you have to keep your phone on or even answer it when it rings. Your phone is for your convience not the person who's calling. They didn't buy it for you of pay your bills did they?

I have my cell phone for MY convenience, not everybody else's. If I don't feel like talking to anyone, why should I have it on?
