could anyone help me with this sum?? i know its simple but i just cant get my head around it?

x+1/x-1=2^ i know the answer is x =3/5 but i need to know the steps you go though to get the answer thanks

x+1 = 2(X-1)
x = 2x-3
-x = -3
x = 3

the answer is not x=3/5. are you sure that you typed it correctly here? it looks like you wanted to raise 2 to an exponent, but you didn't enter one.
