Yes, but it's extremely dangerous because you need to take out amnotic fluid with a needle, which carries a very real chance of having a miscarriage. Better to wait.

There are many different types of paternity tests: Postnatal Paternity tests are done after your child’s birth. This involves DNA testing on things such as blood collection, cheek swab, tissue, hair, etc. to see if the father is indeed the real father.

Prenatal Paternity tests, which are done before your child’s birth, have two kinds of paternity tests.

The first type of prenatal paternity test is Amniocentesis. This DNA paternity test is performed during the 14th to 24th week of pregnancy. A needle is poked into the abdomen of the mother to draw out a small amount of amniotic fluid. The fluid is then tested using a DNA test to see if it matches the DNA of the father. A doctor's consent is needed to do this procedure for paternity testing due to possible risks associated with this procedure.

The second type of prenatal paternity test is Chorionic Villus Sampling. This DNA Paternity test is performed during the 10th to 13th weeks of pregnancy. This type of paternity test uses a thin needle or tube which is inserted into the mother’s vagina through the cervix to obtain chorionic villi, a piece of tissue on the wall of the uterus. DNA testing is done on this tissue to see if it matches the DNA of the father. A doctor's consent is needed to do this procedure for paternity testing due to possible risks associated with this procedure.

As a smarter consumer, you should do your research online about the benefits and procedures of paternity tests. However, always consult your doctor before making any medical or health related decisions.

Not normally. The only exception is if the mother agrees to amniocentesis, a procedure in which a small amount of the amniotic fluid is extracted. The fluid contains DNA from the baby and is usually tested for defects such as Down Syndrome.
