Barcelona for long term stay with stable job. Marbella for fun, risky seasonal jobs and short term planning. Real estate in Marbella is very expensive even for renting. Barcelona is a much larger city with all choices for accomodation, and transport infrastructure is very developed there. As for the jobs I have no details, check on the web.

All depends on what type of life you want to live...
Marbella is cool, casual and beaches all year round.
Barcelona is metropolitain, busy, cosmopolitain and chic. Your typical large city...but a beautiful one..
It all depends on what you are looking for...
In Marbella, or near it, most people work in things related to the touriist trade...and in the off season, there is evidently less work available.
In Barcelona, you can find a job in different fields, and all year round...
As I said before, it depends on what your priorities are.
I live in Mijas, next to Marbella. I've been here 34 years...and still love it. We have family in Barcelona, and visit them at least once a year. so I know it fairly well...it is really a great city!
