As others have said, it is the Friday after Thanksgiving.

It is called Black Friday because that is the day that most retail ledger books go back in the black (+ side, rather than being in the red, i.e. in debt). It is the busiest day in retail.

Internet retailers have a different "black" day. The Monday after Thanksgiving is usually the busiest day for them. This is because it is the first day people are back to work where they often have faster internet connections and so they shop online then.

Depends on where you work. Black friday is the friday after thanksgiving. All department stores are open for the holliday season. It is black Friday because no one is alowed to take that day off.
