I'd start off with a nylon stringed accoustic, they are easier on your fingers, its going to hurt when you 1st start to play, but if you can keep at it, it stops hurting as much. Playing an electric is nice as well, since the neck is usually a little thinner, and its easier to play in that sense, but the strings are metal, and wont be kind on new fingers. See if you can find a friend to learn with, you will stick to it if you can both challenge each other to go further and further.

I have been playing for a few years now. Definatly start with acoustic its easier and other kinds just flow after you have learned on it. Its difficult if you try to rush the learning process. Some people just wanna go BAM and become great at guitar but it takes lessons and practice...just look at everything you learn as a step to becoming an amazing guitarist.

i've been playing for well let's say a few years lol. the electric and the accoustic are the same to play. the avantage of the accoustic is that you do not need a amplifyer to play. but you can't get the same effects on the accoustic. it depends on the music you are into. but you can always get an accoustic with the pick ups built in. i think the main thing to look at when you buy is the action. meaning you do not want the strings so high off the neck it hurts to play. hope this helps

Yes, you should start out with an acoustic. I have been playing well over 3 years, and that's what I started out with. But now that I'm in my second band, I play with an Epiphone Semi-Hollow, which is electric. So go for electric after about your first year of learning :]

A Bass and a Guitar are two different things.
If you want to learn guitar, my opinion is that you take lessons and learn to read music, not just Tab. It will take a bit longer, but you will feel better about your playing.
