Can relationship truly help improve our performance in studies?

There's a saying that Relationship affect grades (or even our jobs).
But can it alleviate our grades, or deteriorate it?
We're talking about tertiary level and above.

Relationship can help if it's a good relationship where you don't have to worry about each other and what they are doing,so you need a good trusted relationship.
