Britain is a free country where women can wear what they want. That is part of the British tradition we should be most proud of. The same freedom that says we don't have to wear veils also allows us to wear veils if we want.

Children do still celebrate Christmas in every school I've ever worked in, and all the children love it. Celebrating Eid and Diwali as well is not a problem. Children love celebrations!

And you are wrong to think that all Muslims are newcomers. Many Muslims are British born and have as much right to be here and live the lives of their choice here as you and I do.

My Muslim friends and neighbours don't want to change things. They don't want to close pubs or ban bikinis! They just want to be free to lead their lives their way, the same as everyone else is free to do.

This weekend we are marking Remembrance, and the people who died to keep Britain free. Just think what it would be like if Hitler had won. He would certainly have banned veils. Our freedom and tolerance are among the reasons I am proud to be British.

You would do more honour to our British traditions by showing respect for your fellow citizens - and by learning to write and spell English properly!

When you say "surely if they come to our country they should live our way of life and not try to change everything" I agree with you to a certain extent, reason I say that is because that statement is only applicable to people who move to our country not the ones who were born and bread here like myself! If I came to your home and said I dont like your curtains, would you change them? No I don't think you would because you are who you are and your preferences are yours.

It has to be understood that our country is a country with many different cultures, I didnt ask to be born here but I was so this is my country, regardless of the fact that I am a muslim. Are we going to go round telling people what to wear now? Some muslim women wear the hijab, some people have crazy mohican hair cuts, some people dress in goth clothing, some peop have facial tattoos, surely these are all differences between people due to individual preferences. I know muslim women who choose not to wear the hijab, some do wear it, what is the big deal. Living in this beautiful country of ours doesn't mean that everyone has to follow the same lifestyle.

The thing about kids not being able to celebrate xmas in schools, I don't know what part of the country you come from but up here in the north west xmas is celebrated in all schools. The point is that even though I was born here, and have lived here all my life there are people who just because off the colour of my skin would say to me go back where you came from.....ignorance doesn't get you anywhere....hello....I am in my country.....have been so since the day I was born.....basically people just need to get a grip....and concentrate on there own lifestlyes instead of picking on people who are just trying to follow their faiths as good as they can.

First of this topic is a load of bollocks!!!!
It's so ******* last century, but still there are prats such as yourself that want to bring this subject up time and time again just to cause aggrevation.

I'm British myself but not a muslim and I for one disagree with your bloody question. Who in the hell are you to have a say on what a muslim or anyone for that fact wears????

I hate seeing white girls walking around in micro skirts and boob tubes showing their cellulite and ****'s off. But just because I don't agree with it, doesn't mean I should tell them they shouldn't wear it!

You do get to celebrate christmas. Every school has a nativity play for **** sake! You bloody start christmas 3/4 months before the 25th December so how the **** you can say you cannot celebrate in school is a load of bollocks!

As for the article your referring to.......... it wasn't made a big deal from the muslim's view but from the view of the judge. Not only do the British try to divide and conquer in other countries that don't have a ******* relevance to them but your also hypocrites.

FREE SPEECH??????????????

Well I say you shouldn't wear micro skirts because no one wants to see your bloody **** or vagina!

Kind of a prejudice question- the lady's beliefs say she is not to unveil in public- its like wearing the "hats " for the jews or a crucifix or Patrain Saint necklace for others- its a belief and we should respect it- in my opinion I think it could be a more sheer veil nowdays in respect for both sides- including the judges problem. No, they don't wear them in the privacy of their own homes- unless strangers are present. Its based on religion and geography and traditions dating far back in history, I think the modern world would be easier for muslim women but thats my western opinion- they are not raised with western ization, nor do they nec. want it. This is their heritage. The world, esp. Europe over America for instance as we are more used to being a melting pot- is changing. History is changing. It never stagnates and we are at the beginning of a huge change- Europe will never be the same, you must realize that. Bad, good or anything, it will be different for upcoming generations- its up to us in the world of example and adulthood to help it change in a good way. Hopefully also those who are so different from us also will understand this so we may all live peacefully. Its kind of scary buttime goes on---

If you really want "Britian" to remain British, perhaps you should learn how to spell THE NAME OF THE COUNTRY YOU LIVE IN!!!!!!

It's Britain, dear. Not Britian.

And while I sort of understand your point, you need to blame Queen Victoria for your ills, it was under her reign that Britain pillaged half the world (bringing them "civilization"), which was obviously wrong, and the cost to you has been you owe the peoples of those nations free access to your country, and you owe their children (who are British every bit as much as you) the same freedoms you have.

Sorry!

I am sorry, but it seems that you may have over-reacted a bit about the veil matter (piece of usually transparent fabric attached to a woman's headgear to conceal or protect the face).

You see, there are many types and colour of attire suiting every description of race and nation we have in this world. Wearing of veil, or 'Hijab' as it is said in Arabic, is custom/tradition of the people of Arab as well as Persian origin. The same tradition is also followed sparingly by girls and women in South Asian countries (India, Pakistan and Bangladesh), Malaysia, Indonesia and such other Muslim populated countries all over the world.

So, it is not that the Muslim girls and women in UK, Australia, USA, Canada or in Europe and such developed countries are wearing Hijab for causing their host country's people inconveniences. If you are offended by Hijab then please be specific about the incident and try to have some solution worked out at your local level. You may take inference of Indian Sikhs' wearing Turban which was initially objected by many in developed countries, but later 'allowed' as special case, even in their Police and defence services.

I think after the 9/11 incident in USA, 7/7 in UK and Madrid train bombing etc., people in western countries were rightly blaming these terrorists groups, those happens to be Muslims, who were basically sympathizers of the Palestinian people in their long struggle against Israeli occupation of their motherland. The Arab-Israeli and India-Pakistan conflicts over the last several decades brewed so many denominations of Islamic-Jihadists, the cause were later overtaken by the notorious Bin-Laden group. These are part of our recent and modern history.

The anger of westerners generated out of series of above mentioned Muslim-terrorist attacks has now been directed to such innocent things like Muslim women and girls wearing Hijab - attire that has nothing to do with terrorism.

By the way, westerners could accept due to their own culture the acts of Nudist Clubs, Night Clubs etc those may be construed as exhibition of women body, which are considered 'improper' in many culture and countries of the world, irrespective of whether these are Muslim populated countries or not. Did anybody in Muslim populated countries ever object so loudly about such ‘western culture’?

Therefore, please be patient with Hijab matter and focus on how to contain the hatred already at high-gear between major religions (Islam vs. Christianity etc.) so that we can live side-by-side peacefully. This panacea is true for the Muslim populace as well.

PS. I would like to apologies to you and others if you find my answer as 'repulsive' as I would respect your views and lifestyles too in equal footing.

This topic has been discussed to death. Can't you move on?
By the way, in our school Christmas is still celebrated as well as all other festivals. What's so wrong with that?

is it right that youths of today are allowed to wear hoodies and not show their faces..is it right that you can go out in jeans and a shirt if you want....this is a free country and if Muslim women want to wear a veil in public then they should be allowed

Yes they should remove them as respect for our British way of life, if they don't like it then go and live in Pakistan, and as for not celebrating Christmas, that is taking the piss, its about time the government woke up and stopped sucking up to every damned foreigner
