There really isnt much you can do with these little engines to get much more power cheaply. Forget the special air filter modifications. That is money wasted.

You might check to see if a performance chip is available for this unit. Some of these are cheap, and will give you some improvement.

It is a little surprising that these little engines are rather gutless, but do not give particularly good economy either.

You can't really make any changes that are going to amount to much. Not dissing on your truck or anything but the engines are pretty small and without any major modifications you aren't going to see much of a difference. If you have the money though you can buy a small block and put it in it. They actually have kits you can do this with but you will have to relocate your motor-mounts, change the radiator, and there are some electronic hassels depending on what year your truck is. Another good way to improve your trucks performance is to change the gear ratio in your rear end differential and install lower gears in it. I have a 72 Nova and installed a posi-track 4.11 rear end in it. Needless to say I have a serious traction problem....

Ditto on the power chip idea. And, its kinda major but you could put different gears in the rear end to either takeoff faster or have a higher top speed. Some little things that might add up to a little boost would be to get rid of any extra weight, tune it up, put in new plug wires, run some fuel system cleaner thru it, and air the tires right.
