If you fall asleep in the bath for what ever reason, drugs, drink or just plain tired out you can slip down into the water. As you slip down especially if it is done quickly, water is forced up the nose and accelerates as it gets to the smaller passages and quickly get into the lungs and then you drown. Many years ago a man drowned his wife in this manner by pulling her feet at one end and she rapidly went under water with water rushing up her nose and into her lungs.
He thought, the perfect murder, as she was found dead in the bath and there was no sign of a struggle and no bruises to the face. They got him though as they found the grip marks on her ankles which perfectly fitted his hands. Thought you might like that little anecdote.

Assuming that you were only asleep and not under the influence of drugs and or alcohol, then most likely the first mouthful of water that you take in and gag on will rouse you. However that said, there have been cases of people drowning in the bath who were not under the influence, but these are most often elderly or children and as a result of slipping and falling, etc where loss of consciousness occurs.
